We know you love your cat. You feed him/her great food and give her loving care. One day, you notice a tangle. She’s not letting you pet her. A week goes by, maybe a month and all of a sudden, you touch her back and it’s a huge mat. You try to comb it out and she grows and swipes at you. Well, maybe she can lick it out you think. You hope it disappears.
A week passes, and now the mat is 3 inches in diameter. You are too embarrassed to call your vet.. ugh, the questions. “They will think I neglect my cat… I don’t want to be judged.” So, you try to cut out the mat, or worst, give your cat a bath.
It’s a disaster. Your cat scratches you and goes running under the bed, all wet. A few days pass, and you hope your cat will let you get close to her. She does, and you notice the mat is worst. You think, “maybe it’s not so bad… if it were hurting, wouldn’t she cry?” A week goes by. Now the mat has doubled. Yes, all that tangled fur has formed near the back legs. It is now picking up urine and feces when your cat is in the box.
These mats cause irritation, more licking and could lead to infection. Plus, this irritation is painful and can keep your kitty from resting in certain positions.
It’s time to call a professional groomer. We won’t judge you.. we will be grateful you have done something to relieve your kitty’s pain.
