If you own any type of poodle or poodle cross, you will need to have him groomed regularly to prevent matting. It is critical to brush and comb your dog regularly in order to keep from matting.
This includes a Doodle, Cock-a-poo, Schnoodle, Cavapoo, Maltipoo, Pekeapoo and all other poodle type mixes.
Why does poodle hair tend to mat more than other types?
1. Poodle hair is a single layer of soft and wiry fur that curls.

While some of the coats are tightly curled, others are loose and wavy (depending on how they were bred and diet)
Poodle hair does not shed out of the coat so it stays in the coat.
The hair then twists around the curls and mats if not brushed regularly.
When groomers shampoo, clean and blows out this single layer of hair (which takes a long time to dry), it has to be puffed out to achieve an even cut. More combing and brushing is involved.

If you don’t brush your dog and wait beyond the 4 weeks, the coat will become tangled and the tangles will join together and form big mats. While it may look short and fluffy, it is impossible to run a comb through the coat without catching a bunch of knots.
We are humane groomers and will not put your dog through the torture of trying to demat these tangles. We will have to remove the matted coat for the comfort of your dog. Your dog will be happier and love you for it!
